Bio: Born and raised surrounded by the flat cornfields of Indiana, USA, in a chaotic home full of music, mischief and just the right amount of boredom to get creative, Kisha Bradley immigrated to Sheffield, England to be nestled by the hills of the Peak District. She founded the arts and culture organisation Brightbox, shaping local decision-making through artmaking. Seeking time and energy to sit with community knowledge, Kisha began her PhD at the University of Leeds in 2024 with the generous support of a White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities Studentship funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. This research asks, “What are the enabling conditions for Black and brown artists living in Sheffield to pursue their creative practices?” For Kisha, escaping capture means taking time to sit on the porch with others, savouring a morning cup of coffee, and regular walking to stay connected with her local landscapes.
